My First Blog Post!

Greetings from Tangerine House of Design!

I'm Lisa Asp, owner and photographer at Tangerine House of Design in Edina MN. I have started off the new year with the idea of getting back into blogging about business news, local flavor and exciting images from the studio. I wrote a blog for my former photography studio in New England but since starting Tangerine in 2011 the demands of starting up have been more pressing than blogging. In addition to all the business demands, I've also been doing renovations to my studio space. Sometimes there are just not enough hours in the day to finish everything I want to accomplish! Now that I'm more established in my business, I've made a goal of blogging in 2014.

Many of my clients get updates via Facebook and Twitter but a blog allows communication with greater depth. I think blogging allows the relationship between artist and community to be richer and more full. The basic principle of business is to build strong relationship with clients. And in a business like photography where emotion is portrayed in images, this relationship is even more important. I'm really excited to use this blog to get to know the community better and build relationships with my clients.

I see this blog as a place for me to display some local images of Edina as well as samples of studio work and from my travels. I exhibit a number of these images at state and national photography competitions but few people in the general public get to see these beautiful works. I'm always experimenting in the studio with new ideas and methods. As I go around Edina on my daily activities I see all the interesting views in our community. I love seeing the local sites at sunrise or sunset! The light has such depth and drama, it really gives new understanding of those places we've already seen a million times. I also love to travel and I come home with images that reflect my personal love of photography rather than images only for sale to clients.

I recently got back from a trip to Phoenix with my husband Kevin. We attended Imaging USA, the annual convention for The Professional Photographers of America. We spent a few days after the convention traveling and taking photos that I'm excited to share. I have some great photos of giraffes from the Phoenix Zoo, and architectural images from Frank Lloyd Wright's home Taliesin West. For a Minnesotan such as myself, the desert is such a visually foreign place. To paraphrase a quote from Marcel Proust, traveling in the desert makes me see the world with new eyes and I think it refreshes my work as an artist. I'm excited to show some of these images in future blog postings.

Until my next post, if you need to reach me my contact information is available at my website, www.TangerineHouseOfDesign.com. And I'm also available via Facebook and Twitter.

Thanks,

Lisa
