Hornets advance in sectional playoffs in rain-shortened 5-0 defeat of Orioles at Edina Community Center.

Not even Mother Nature could stop the 14-time defending state champion Edina girls tennis team from advancing in the Section 6AA playoffs on Monday as the Hornets topped St. Louis Park 5-0 in a rain-shortened match at the .

The Hornets and Orioles got in an hour of their sectional quarterfinal before dark skies finally opened up to suspend play. With Edina already having clinched the victory, the decision was made not to fully play out the seven-match string.

It was the final home match of the season for the Hornets with the sectional playoffs now moving on to Lifetime Fitness in Lakeville for its final two rounds on Thursday at 9 a.m. and 1 p.m.

Edina will play either No. 4 Benilde-St. Margaret's or No. 5 Minneapolis South in the semifinals, with the Red Knights and Tigers doing battle on Tuesday afternoon.
