(PHOTOS) Hornets Run at Roy Griak Invitational

Edina boys, girls cross country teams compete in a multi-state meet on a perfect Saturday afternoon.

It was a perfect day for a run and the Edina cross-country teams took full advantage as the Hornets competed in the Gold Division of the multi-state Roy Griak Invitational on Saturday at the University of Minnesota's Les Bolstad Golf Course.

The Edina girls took eighth and the boys placed ninth in their respective team standings after the top division runs were completed.

Piper Bain finished the five-kilometer girls course in 19 minutes, 39.9 seconds to take 25th-place individually and lead the Edina girls to eighth overall.

Also contibuting to the Hornets' team placement were: Stephanie Kohn (19:48.8) in 35th, Molly Kuhs (20:25.6) in 77th, Laura Schmiel (20:35.0) in 89th and Bridgit Loeffelholz (20:38.3) in 99th.

Among the 410 total girls finishers were Edina runners McKenzie Lee (20:50.9) in 120th, Elaine Rock (21:05.6) in 145th, Sarah Downey (21:31.5) in 188th, Caitlin Raasch (22:14.7) in 277th and Catherine Rudnicki (22:39.3) in 311th.

Burke Paces Boys To Ninth

Will Burke ran a 16:07.39 over the 5K boys course to finish seventh overall and lead the Hornets to a ninth-place team result.

Chipping in to the Hornets' team finish were: Matthew Berntson (17:01.49) in 69th, Matt Lumbar (17:09.09) in 91st, Luke Lumbar (17:09.09) in 92nd and Jake Campbell (17:23.59) in 118th.

There were 471 boys finishers overall; among their ranks were Edina runners Peter Knoll (17:24.09) in 120th, Kyle Staunton (17:43.49) in 184th, Elliot Stoltz (17:44.84) in 194th, Paul Nordquist (17:51.79) in 219th and Matt Rock (18:03.64) in 251st.
