Prepare For Your Pet Portrait Session

Many people wonder how we get great poses from pets. The truth is: It starts with our clients. We are going to share with you some of our best tips for preparing your pet for your Tiny Acorn Pet Session!

1. The number one tip is to bring your pets favorite treats. Dogs especially will pick up on the presence of treats and will be more likely to give us their full attention even before receiving it as a reward. Cats will often be intrigued by the sound, or sight of treats.

2. If you have a dog, make sure to take them for a long walk before the session. This will help them burn off some energy, so they are calm and better at following commands. If you cat is typically full of energy as well, make sure to spend some time at home playing with them to try and wear them out a little before the session.

3. Bring toys! If your pet has a favorite at home that never fails to amuse them...bring it! We do not keep pet toys in the studio since they are less responsive to it if it has another pet's scent. The best toys for dogs are ones that make noise, such as a squeaky stuffed animal. The best toy to bring for a cat is something that has a lot of movement and more subtle sounds, such as feathers with small bells on them.

4. Chose your location wisely. A location out of the studio works best for dogs and not as well for cats. The studio is great for both cats or dogs though!

5. Save time for a bathroom break. If your pet is not house broken yet, then give yourself an extra few minutes before the shoot to allow them some time to relieve themselves before entering the studio.

6. Lastly, don't exclude your other pet friends! We love all pets here at Tiny Acorn, so bring in your turtle, your rabbit, hamster, or whatever fun companion you have at home. We have even done a session with a snake! Bring your kids and come join us in the spring when we have Spring Bunny Mini Sessions where we have real live kid-friendly bunnies hopping in the studio :)

Remember, that you are the one that knows your pet best. If you think something that is not on this list will work, then roll with it! We have a lot of tricks to show you during your session, and we work with a lot of unique noises to get the perfect reaction and poses from your pets. As you can probably tell, we love pet sessions and we always have a great time in the studio or on location with them. We can't wait to meet your pet!
