"Responding to the Pope's call for action on Climate Change"

Maple Grove, Climate Change, Pope Francis

“Responding to the Pope’s Call for Action on Climate Change”, is the topic for the Citizens Climate Lobby meeting on Saturday, July 11 at 11:45 am at Maple Grove Library.

Guest speaker (by nat’l conference call) will be Patrick Carolan, Executive Director of the Franciscan Action Network. Franciscan Action Network is a grassroots organization amplifying the justice efforts of Franciscans and Franciscan-hearted people around the country.

In his recent encyclical message, Pope Francis wrote “The climate is a common good, belonging to all and meant for all....A scientific consensus says climate change is real and is caused at least in part by human activity.....A very solid scientific consensus indicates that we are presently witnessing a disturbing warming of the climatic system.” And the Pope called on everyone to deal with the issue, saying that solutions to the climate crisis are being blocked not just by deniers but also by ”indifference, nonchalant resignation or blind confidence in technical solutions.” On July 11th, Patrick Carolan will speak about how we can best respond to the Pope’s call for action. Pope Francis is expected to advance his call for action on climate change when he speaks to the U.S. Congress and to the United Nations this September.
