Sports Roundup: Hornets Bask Under Sunny Skies

Edina sports teams compete under ideal weather conditions.

Edina High School athletic squads competed under sunny skies in their mid-week competitions on Wednesday and Thursday.

Girls Soccer

The Edina girls soccer team posted its second-straight scoreless tie at Anoka on Thursday, as the Hornets and Tornadoes engaged in a 0-0 deadlock.

Anoka held the visitors scoreless on their eight shots on goal in the contest. Goalkeeping statistics for the Hornets were not made available.

Edina's record moved to 4-0-2 with the tie, as the third-ranked Hornets now prepare to host No. 6-ranked Woodbury at 7 p.m. Saturday.

Girls Cross-Country

Piper Bain's third-place finish led the Edina girls cross-country team to a at Gale Woods Farm in Minnetrista on Thursday.

Bain ran the course in 15 minutes, 13.4 seconds, with Stephanie Kohn placing 18th in 15:46.8; Bridgit Loeffelholz (15:58.4) took 26th, Laura Schmiel (16:16.4) came in 33rd and McKenzie Lee (16:18.8) wrapped up the Hornets' scoring runners with a 34th-place turn.

Volleyball

A five-game victory (25-20, 17-25, 12-25, 25-20, 15-8) at Prior Lake on Thursday improved the Edina volleyball team to 2-1 on the season.

Individual statistics were not made available.

Girls Swimming and Diving

The Edina girls swimming and diving team held off Lake Conference rival Minnetonka, 94.5-91.5 in a dual meet on Thursday. Individual results were not yet available.
