Sports Roundup: Hornets Spikers Go On a Hot Streak

Edina volleyball team goes 6-0-1 since Friday to improve overall record to 7-3-1.

It's been a nice stretch of days for the Edina volleyball team, as the Hornets spikers highlighted the weekend schedule with an invitational tournament title on Saturday.

Volleyball

Going 6-0-1 since Friday, the Edina volleyball team turned its record from 1-3 to 7-3-1 after a stretch in which the Hornets won the Heritage Christian Tournament and defeated their first Lake Conference rival this fall.

Edina topped Heritage Christian, Monticello, Providence Academy and Fridley, while going 1-0-1 against Robbinsdale Armstrong over Friday and Saturday to win the tourney championship, before defeating Minnetonka in five games on Tuesday.

Prior to the unbeaten streak, Christine Harvey led the Hornets with 37 kills, with Natalie Haben's six service aces and Melissa Sutton's 39 digs pacing the team.

Boys Soccer

The Edina boys soccer team topped Minnetonka, 2-1, in overtime on Tuesday to boost the sixth-ranked Hornets' record to 8-1-1 overall and 3-1 in the conference standings. Individual statistics were not made available.

Girls Soccer

Mary Stafford logged the winning goal as the Edina girls soccer team snapped a two-game losing streak with its first Lake victory in a 1-0 defeat of Minnetonka on Tuesday. 

Brittany Bingham assisted on the lone tally, while goalkeeper Gina Diaz made four assists for the shutout.

Girls Tennis

The Edina girls tennis team , 5-2, on Tuesday. Individual statistics were not made available.

Results from scheduled meets involving the Edina boys cross-country and girls swimming/diving teams were not made available.
