Marinovich, Boyer Win Sectional Doubles Title

With its 15th-straight team sectional title already secured, selected members of the Edina girls tennis squad competed in the sectional individual tournament on Monday and Tuesday, while the Hornets volleyball team also wrapped up the regular season at home on Tuesday.
Girls Tennis
The top-seeded Edina doubles tandem of Morgan Marinovich and Maddie Boyer won the Section 6AA championship on Tuesday with a 7-6 (6-3), 6-0 defeat of Wayzata's Alissa Heiring and Caitlin Eichten in the title match at the Lakeville Lifetime Fitness.

Third-seeded Meghan Herring and Kelly Reger finished third in the sectional, defeating Benilde-St. Margaret's Paige and Taylor McLeod 6-2, 6-1.
Sixth-seeded Meghana Vasireddy placed second in the singles' bracket, falling 6-4, 6-2 to Wayzata's Lucia Solis in the final after topping Minneapolis South's Lacey Sprinkel 6-1, 6-3 in the semifinals.

Top-seeded Caroline Ward finished third, defeating Sprinkel 6-4, 6-2 in the third-place match.
Via their placements, Marinovich/Boyer and Vasireddy all qualified individually for the state tournament that is scheduled to begin on Oct. 25.
Volleyball
The Edina volleyball team wrapped up a 19-9-1 regular season with a 3-0 defeat of East Ridge at home on Tuesday. Individual statistics were not made available.
Next up for the Hornets is the Section 6AAA Tournament, scheduled to take place from Oct. 24-28. Seedings and matchups have not yet been announced.
