Thinking of going for a walk? Check the temperature first!

Bulldog hot weather safety. Bulldogs and other brachycephalic breeds (breeds with a "pushed in face"), are prone to overheating. They have narrow airways and cooling themselves down becomes more difficult during the summer. Never take your bulldog for walks during the heat of the day and never push her to the point that her tongue is hanging far out of her mouth and she is panting excessively. If she starts to overheat, bring her inside and put cool water on her armpits and groin. Don't submerse her entirely in cold water as that can drop her body temperature too quickly. Signs of heat stroke include disorientation, or "passing out". If this occurs, bring her to your veterinarian immediately.
