WATCH: Edina Native Scores First NHL Goal on First Shot of His Career

Anders Lee scored Tuesday during his first game with the New York Islanders.

Edina native Anders Lee made a smooth transition into the NHL on Tuesday when he scored his first NHL goal on his first shot in his first period of his first NHL game, NBC Sports reported.

The New York Islanders center fought past the Winnipeg Jets’ Dustin Byfuglien and shot the puck past goaltender Ondrej Pavelec.

Lee is a 2009 Edina High School graduate. After transferring to Edina from St. Thomas Academy, he quickly established himself as a tremendous athlete in hockey, football and baseball. He was a 2009 finalist for the annual "Mr. Hockey" Award, 2008 finalist for the "Mr. Football" Award and holds a number of conference records as well.

During his high school hockey career, he accumulated 106 goals and 132 assists, ranking second in all-time scoring by a Metro player in Minnesota history.

Lee played three seasons with Notre Dame, becoming the team’s captain in his final season before joining the Islanders.
