• Burntside Lake Wildland Fire (boreal.org) — A wildland fire broke out Monday afternoon near Birch Bay on Burntside Lake, about eight miles northwest of Ely, prompting precautionary evacuations along North Arm and Lindskog roads. Multiple fire agencies and aircraft held the blaze in heavy woods, no structures were lost, and the U.S. Forest Service will continue monitoring as crews resume work in the morning. 
• Northern Minnesota wildfire reaches 35 acres, fire suppression continues into Wednesday (kaaltv.com) — Fire crews are battling the Birch Bay wildfire burning about 35 acres of U.S. forest land just west of Burntside Lake near Ely, with air and ground teams working to hold fire lines. After a stable Tuesday, today’s near-critical fire weather could challenge containment, so residents should stay alert for changing conditions and official updates.
• Kentucky father and son rescued from Lac La Croix in the BWCAW north of Ely (wtip.org) — A visiting father and son from Kentucky were airlifted from Lac La Croix in the Boundary Waters and brought to the U.S. Forest Service seaplane base in Ely after the father injured his back. He was then treated and released from Ely Hospital, with multiple local agencies, including Ely Ambulance Service, credited for the successful rescue.
