Art at Rice Creek Back for the 16th Year!
The Art at Rice Creek Festival takes place Sunday, September 14 from 10 am to 4 pm at Banfill-Locke Center for the Arts and in Manomin Park.

Celebrating the 16th year, Banfill-Locke Center for the Arts presents Art at Rice Creek Festival 2014 on Sunday, September 14 from 10 am to 4 pm. This festival is a coming together of artists in our community and those who love the arts. Taking place in the historic Banfill Tavern Building as well as in beautiful Manomin Park along Rice Creek where it flows into the Mississippi, this festival will feature something for everyone. The Address for BLCA is 6666 East River Road, Fridley, The event is free to attend.
The Pavilion stage in the park will feature free entertainment all day, emceed by KFAI radio host Jacquie Maddix (LadyJ):
10:15-11:15am: Scott Dercks
11:20am-12:00pm: Dirty Hands Reading Series – Poet and writer Patricia Barone and novelist Faith Sullivan will be featured.
12-12:45pm: Circus Manduhai
1-1:45pm: Kalpulli Yaucenoxtil
2-2:45pm: Lau Hawaiian Collective
3-3:45pm: Fridley City Band
Booths will feature everything from fine art photography, to hand made wall tapestries, watercolor paintings and beaded jewelry. Artist Vendors participating in this year’s festival include: Angelica Romero Tapestries, Artists del Norte, Baroness Color, Elna Goodspeed, Gustin Shumacher Photography, Inspired Vittles, Jes Lee Studios and Dad and Kiddo Pottery, Jules Loft, KAP Custom Woodturning, Karen Wallach, Lasting Images, Lauri Rockne and Deb Newton, Mike and Wendy Egan, Mitten Art by Beth Kimball, Paintings by Joyce (VanderWyst), Richard Yacelga’s Handmade Clothing, Shawn Leer Photography: Prairies Images, TSE Inc., Turner and Pooch, UT Jewelry (Ulrike Thomas).
Inside the building, visitors will be invited to participate in an art scavenger hunt delving into the current exhibition Art of Darkness: Inspired by the Paranormal. In the 1847 Banfill Tavern building, rumors and evidence of paranormal activity are prevalent and this exhibition will celebrate the local lore. This show will highlight work by 61 artists from 15 states in the US, Canada, and England. Work was selected by art center curators and Darkness Radio hosts Dave Schrader and Tim Dennis.
Free art making workshops in printmaking, drawing, poetry writing, and more will take place throughout the day of the festival.
Community businesses and organizations will also be present, including Springbrook Nature Center, Banfill-Locke Writers, Health Source Chiropractic & Progressive Rehab of Shoreview and the Fridley Women of Today. Master Gardeners will be on hand to answer all your gardening and plant questions.
Food will be provided by Little G’s Pizzeria, Grandpa’s Ice Cream, and the Fridley Lion’s Club.
Parking is available in the north Manomin Park lot and in the surrounding neighborhood; Fridley Community Officers will be on hand to help you find a convenient spot- or ride the Mississippi River Trail and park your bike in the park.
Special needs will be accommodated. Please call in advance if you would like extra assistance in your enjoyment of the festival.
Support for this festival comes from Anoka County, the City of Fridley, and by the voters of Minnesota through grants from the Minnesota State Arts Board and the Metropolitan Regional Arts Council, thanks to a legislative appropriation from the arts and cultural heritage fund.
