Nucleus Clinic Wine, Salad & Chocolate Open House

Community members are welcome to join volunteers and staff
at Nucleus Clinic for the annual Spring Wine, Salad and Chocolate Open House
Thursday, April 24, 5 to 8 p.m., 1323 Coon Rapids Blvd., Coon Rapids.

The event will include a silent auction, door prizes, and
complimentary chair massages by Health and Healing Family Chiropractic, from
Andover, and Reiki care by Sydney Milam, emergency room and sexual assault
nurse examiner with Mercy Hospital.

Founded in 1971, Nucleus Clinic is the only independent,
nonprofit family planning and reproductive health clinic in Anoka County, and
in a larger area from St. Cloud to St. Paul. The clinic serves approximately
1,000 uninsured or underinsured patients.

Local and national media recently used Nucleus Clinic’s
experience with enrolling patients in MNSure to put a human face on the state’s
website issues.

Insurance plans are important, says Nucleus Clinic Executive
Director Becky Fink, but enrollment is just one step.

“This is the first time many of our patients have had
insurance,” Fink said. “They need help understanding some of the basics, like what
a deductible or premium is. Thanks to the support we receive from our
community, we’re able to help our patients be good consumers of healthcare
services.”

At the open house, visitors will be able to see the
examination rooms, meet the staff and volunteers, and learn about what’s
happening in healthcare. For example, information will be shared on the newly
formed Sexual and Domestic Violence Coalition of Anoka County. Nucleus Clinic
is a member of the Coalition.

Guests are invited to make a contribution as they are able
to support the patient care provided at Nucleus Clinic.

“Each spring and fall we celebrate access to quality
education and care to help prevent unintended pregnancy and untreated sexually
transmitted diseases, plus provide cancer screenings, pregnancy testing, and
access to affordable reproductive healthcare,” Fink said. “Our focus is on
patient centered education by trained healthcare professionals.”
