Announcing the 2015 “Campaign Against Summer Hunger”

Earlier this month, PRISM launched its Campaign Against Summer Hunger to aid financially-strapped families whose children are out of school for the summer and are no longer getting free lunches. PRISM’s goal is to serve 700 families by giving them an extra supply of food on top of what they already receive. In order to do this PRISM, needs to raise an additional $15,000. Our partners at FORUM, Lupient Buick GMC, and Rotary District 5950 have awarded $7,400 in matching funds, so every donation you make will be doubled by them.

Here’s how to help:

Make a donation at prismmpls.org or reach PRISM’s Development Director at 763-432-4225. PRISM is also accepting donations of food too that is nutritious, delicious, easy to prepare, and especially appealing to kids; please call for more information.

Hunger is a primary indicator of the poverty that faces many families in the PRISM community, and alleviating hunger is often the first way PRISM is able to help. More than 7,000 students qualify for free meals at their schools in Crystal, Golden Valley, New Hope, Plymouth, and Robbinsdale. PRISM’s Campaign Against Summer Hunger is the social safety net we give to abate childhood hunger and the negative physical and cognitive consequences it has on these kids.

PRISM is a community-supported social service organization helping people get their basic needs of food, clothing, and housing met in times of financial hardship. They have caseworkers who take a person-centered approach to pairing individuals and families with services and referrals for budgeting and financial assistance, diet and nutrition, domestic violence, employment, homelessness prevention, mental health, substance abuse, and more. PRISM blends talent, need, passion, and various abilities into opportunities that improve the lives of others, build a resilient community, and reflect the spirit of the west suburban Twin Cities.
