Financial Peace University to Begin Jan. 15 at Calvary
Public Invited to Address & Overcome Money Problems Through Nine-week Course

About 75 percent of Americans live paycheck to paycheck throughout the year, amassing an average of $9,000 in credit card debt per household. Add the burden of recent holiday bills, and society has a widespread financial crisis on its hands! Given this hard reality, Calvary Lutheran Church invites the public to attend its upcoming Financial Peace University running Sundays, Jan. 15-March 19, from 6 to 8 p.m. each week. Calvary is located at 7520 Golden Valley Road in Golden Valley, Minn.
Financial Peace University (FPU) is a nine-week course that offers just that—“financial peace”—and was created to help people address and overcome daunting money problems for good! It resonates with individuals and families of all economic means and teaches them how to create a budget, pay off debt, spend and save wisely, and develop solid money habits that stick for a lifetime. FPU isn’t just about getting out of one’s current financial bind; it’s about establishing a way of life that offers peace for today and a legacy for the future.
Participants may visit calvary.org/fpu to register for the class and order materials. The cost is $93 per family.

“Though some may hesitate to attend based on the cost, we’ve seen how it’s effective to have some ‘skin in the game,’ so to speak,” said Jason Beaver, who will be leading the course with his wife, Julie. “In the end, probably the biggest challenge for most is the level of accountability and commitment that FPU promotes. Julie and I can say firsthand that it’s well worth it.”
The Beavers faced their own money problems in 2006-2007. Life was pretty stable for the couple until a job change and the move to a different house came along. Then they were living on just one income. Then their family grew to include their first daughter, followed by a second. It wasn’t long before their $15,000 in credit card bills became not only a hefty monthly expense, but also a serious threat to their overall well-being and future. They even faced the possibility of losing their home.

However, through the help of FPU, the Beavers shed their credit card debt in just 18 months and were able to build a healthy savings. Today, they manage their money in a way that mirrors their goals and values. They have the financial wherewithal to give in ways they never dreamed possible.
“It was a really hard season in the life of our family that led us to financial peace,” said Julie. “Our hearts break for those who continue to struggle as we did and see no way out. We want them to find the peace and freedom that we have.”
