Well we are down to one week left in the campaign with the vote coming up next Tuesday the 5th. This weekend was a busy weekend for the candidates and those that are helping out which leads me to the topic of signs. There are literally hundreds of signs in the yards of Golden Valley residents and this is a big achievement for the candidates but the signs don’t tell the whole story.
I hit over three hundred homes this weekend while dropping off my literature and knocking on doors.
If a yard had a sign for any candidate I was sure to stop by and see if I could engage in a discussion. Some of those discussions were very enlightening and after seeing all these signs for other candidates but speaking with the residents where that sign was I learned that a sign does not mean a vote.

This year there are more signs than there have been in the past and that is not only because there are 11 people running but the real reason we are seeing this many signs is the fact that Golden Valley is no longer non-partisan. The DFL and Republican parties have entered Golden Valley elections and that is why you are seeing more signs than in the past (did I forget the unions?…them too).
My commitment from day one of this campaign was to keep partisan politics out of Golden Valley. The influence of the DFL has already been felt at City Hall and they will have a lot more influence if the two folks with the most signs are elected. Those sign owners may have showed up to your home together as they are campaigning as a team.

I did not seek an endorsement from either party and I know that makes campaigning more difficult but going back to my commitment to keep partisan politics out of Golden Valley I could not go this route.
Having had a chance to meet all the candidates I can say that Golden Valley is fortunate to have eleven good people that want to represent the residents of Golden Valley. I want to be one of the two that are elected for one of the four year terms. You have a commitment from me to keep partisan politics out of Golden Valley and focus solely on what is best for Golden Valley and the people that make up this great city.
I hope to earn one of your votes next week and if you entrust me with that vote I will work for all of Golden Valley; party politics will not influence any action or vote that I may take as a council member
