• Grand Marais partners with Minnesota State Historic Preservation Office on archeological survey (wtip.org) — An archeological survey focused on city-owned land in Grand Marais and Grand Marais Harbor is underway through a new partnership with the Minnesota State Historic Preservation Office. Led by Minnesota State University–Mankato archeologist Ron Schirmer, the project will map historic Native and European sites, so residents may notice shovel tests and field crews around town this year.

• Chik-Wauk Museum to Honor Anishinaabe Culture and Tradition with New Exhibit (boreal.org) — A new Anishinaabe-focused exhibit is opening at Chik-Wauk Museum, about 60 miles up the Gunflint Trail from Grand Marais, with a soft opening Memorial Day weekend and a grand opening June 27. Led by Anishinaabe advisors and backed by Cook County-connected funders, the interactive display will highlight Indigenous history, culture, and local family stories while strengthening the region’s tourism economy.
