Dogs of 9/11: Just A Few of the Unsung Heros
Just a small rememberance of some of the dogs of 9/11
This Sunday, September 11, 2011 is the 10th anniversary of a day that changed our country forever.
September 11, 2001 is a day our country was put on pause. It was a day where family came before work. It didn't matter if your neighbor was a Democrat or Republican, you still stopped to ask if their family was okay. We all sat in front of the television watching the same news coverage over and over, trying to make sense of this senseless act of violence. It didn't matter that weather wise it was a perfect fall day. A walk wasn't going to be on the agenda.
We all remember the stories of the police officers, fire fighters, and many countless others who risked their lives in the days and weeks to come after this horrific event. What we don't hear about are the dogs who did the same thing. These dogs walked over rubble, including broken glass, with bare feet. These dogs were search and rescue dogs who were looking for survivors and cadavors.

Not only is it important to remember these dogs this week because of the tenth anniversary of 9/11, but also because many of these dogs are between the age of 11 and 16 years. Some of them are no longer with us, and the rest of them are now retired. They now move a little slower or sleep a little longer, but they will always have a place in the history of our nation.
