Hennepin County Judge 1-2 Blocks From Boston Marathon Explosions

Jay Quam had just met up with his wife and daughter.

Hennepin County Judge Jay Quam was among those who just escaped injury from the Boston Marathon explosions.

Quam told Minnesota Public Radio that he crossed the finish line at 2:05 p.m. EST and had just met up with his wife and daughter about a block or two away when he heard an explosion followed by another explosion.

MPR quoted Quam, who lives in Eden Prairie, as saying:

I thought that somebody must've planted some bombs at the finish line of the Boston Marathon, honestly. There really wasn't any other explanation for those distinctive sounds.

Quam was first appointed a Hennepin County judge in 2006 and elected in 2008, according to the Minnesota Judicial Branch. His current term expires in 2015.
