It may be summer, but Hopkins students are engaged in learning. The Hopkins field biology summer course is tackling a conservation lesson – in specific, the harmful effects of lead in Minnesota lakes. The class is organizing a service-learning event that aims to reduce the amount of lead lures found in local lakes.
Hopkins students will be hosting a local “Get the Lead Out” event on July 12 from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. in the parking lot of Hopkins High School (2400 Lindbergh Drive, Minnetonka). Community members can bring their lead sinkers, jigs, and lures and exchange them for non-lead tackle. The students will arrange for the safe disposal of the lead lures.
