Police Blotter: March 1, 2012

See some of the things your police force has been up to recently.

Feb. 10: Felony warrant

Police was alerted that a wanted 23 year-old man was spotted at an building on the 1800 block of 52nd St. The anonymous caller stated that suspect had Dakota Felony warrant. Officers knocked on the door several times, but got no answer. When they opened the door, a woman answered. When asked if the suspect was in the apartment, she said no, but pointed to back room. The suspect was found in the bedroom closet. He was arrested without incident.

A 25 year-old woman was parked outside a building on the 3800 block of 67th St., after picking up her cousin of the same age. A 49 year-old man, who is a resident of the same building, approached the car. He became verbally aggressive with the women, and complained his dog could not defecate, because they were parked on the road. He told them that if they were guys, he would drag them out of the car and beat them up.

The women called the police and said they feared for their safety. They stated that they did not know what they had done to provoke the man’s reaction, but said he is “always drunk and aggressive.”

When met by police, the man did show signs of intoxication. He admitted his threats of assault, but denied the statement about the dog. He said he was constantly being harassed by boys who mistake his apartment for that of one of the two women. He said he was agitated because he had attended a funeral that day. No arrest was made. The man was advised to call police if he is harassed by neighbors.  

Feb 13: Domestic disturbance

Police were called to a home on the 3700 block of 94th St. The caller was a 43 year-old female, who was “obviously intoxicated, according to the police report. She stated she had had seven glasses of wine, and was “upset and agitated”. Her 47 year-old boyfriend had allowed her to stay with him for a month. Ha said she had come home drunk from a bar and an argument had ensued. According to the man, she had thrown things around the house.  He said he had told her to leave the house, and locked himself in bathroom to avoid further conflict.

The woman said she had not left because she was concerned that the man would damage her properties left at his home. Officers advised her to come back in the morning to collect her belongings. The man then became upset and uncooperative, and was advised to calm down. The woman took a few belongings, and left with her son, whom she had called to pick her up.

Feb. 14: Possession of drugs in car

A police officer noticed a car blocking traffic on Broderick Blvd. When he noticed the squad car, the subject tried to get away, committing several traffic violations. The officer activated the squad car’s emergency lights, pulled the car over, and immediately smelled a strong odor of marijuana.

All three of the car’s occupants (a 19 year-old male driver, and two 18 year-old males) stated there was nothing illegal inside car, which they said had been borrowed from the driver’s uncle. They said they were on their way back from dropping off a friend, whom they could not name, and that he had been smoking marijuana.

An officer searched the car and found a small amount of marijuana underneath a seat. None of the subjects admitted ownership.  The driver was cited for possession of marijuana in a motor vehicle and failing to signal a lane change. All of the subjects were released with the vehicle.
