14-Year-Old Girl Dies After Falling Off MN State Park Cliff

The first ones down to her were bystanders, who repelled down the cliff to render first aid and perform life-saving measures.

A 14-year-old girl died Sunday after falling off a cliff at a northern Minnesota state park. Just after 1 p.m., the Lake County Sheriff’s Office received multiple 911 calls from Palisade Head, north of Silver Bay along Lake Superior.

While visiting Palisade Head with friends, the girl accidentally fell over the top of the cliff. The first ones down to her were bystanders, who rapelled down the cliff to render first aid and perform life-saving measures. She was transported by a Lifelink Helicopter to a hospital.

"Unfortunately, we have received word that she passed away from her injuries," the Lake County Sheriff’s Office said in a news release. Her name is being withheld pending notification to her family.
