17-Year-Old From Twin Cities Drowns In North Metro Lake
The incident happened Saturday evening in Anoka County.

ANOKA COUNTY, MN — A 17-year-old from Blaine drowned Saturday evening in a lake in the north Twin Cities metro. On June 1, the Anoka County Sheriff’s Office responded to Coon Lake Beach, 5455 193rd Avenue Northeast in Columbus, on a possible drowning.
A teen was later found by people at the beach and taken to shore. CPR was administered by citizens and by deputies from the Anoka County Sheriff’s Office, according to a news release.
The teen was transported to the Hennepin County Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead.

An investigation found the victim had been swimming at the beach with two friends. The victim began struggling in deeper water before going under.
This case remains under investigation by the Anoka County Sheriff’s Office and the Hennepin County Medical Center.

The victim has been identified as Tim Cao Nguyen.
