Maple Grove police officers are now carrying Narcan in their squad car medical kits to prevent deaths from opioid overdose.

In an effort to battle the epidemic of opioid addiction, Maple Grove police officers are now carrying Narcan in their squad car medical kits. Narcan can immediately reverse the effects of an opioid overdose, and has been proven to save lives, according to a news release.

"This is one piece in our holistic approach to combating our nation’s opioid epidemic," police said in a statement.

Maple Grove takes this problem seriously, which is why the police department makes every effort to educate our citizens through town hall meetings, relay pertinent information to our Neighborhood Watch Block Captains for dissemination, and now having this vital piece of medical equipment to assist those in immediate medical need.

Maple Grove Police Capt. Dan Wills told Channel 12 - Northwest Community Television that while the nasal applicator isn't going to end the opioid epidemic completely, it will "save some lives throughout the city."
