Blaine-Area Lockdowns Lifted, Assault Suspect Arrested

The search sent several area schools into lockdown and residents in the Blaine area were asked to lock their doors and remain inside.

BLAINE, MN — A man was arrested Monday after the Blaine Police Department searched for him for nearly four hours. The search led to lockdowns at several area schools, including Westwood Middle and Intermediate, Avail Academy, Blaine Human Services Center, Mary Ann Young Senior Center, and University Ave Elementary.

At 9:35 a.m., Blaine police responded to a domestic violence report in the 9400 block of Monroe Street NE. Upon arriving, the victim told officers that the occupant of the home left the residence on foot armed with a handgun.

The victim also told officers that the man was intoxicated.

Police established a perimeter and contacted several area schools and businesses to initiate containment or lockdown procedures. The suspect was located and taken into custody at 1:10 p.m.

The suspect was booked at the Anoka County Jail for second degree assault, according to a news release.

The Minnesota State Patrol, Coon Rapids Police, Anoka Police, Spring Lake Park Police and the Anoka County Sheriff’s Office aided the Blaine Police Department in the search.
