Blaine's Water Tower To Be Repainted
Last October, a rehabilitation project was started to repaint the Blaine water tower that was originally constructed in 1961.
BLAINE, MN — If you spend time in the north metro, you may have noticed activity at Blaine's Water Tower No. 1 located at Aquatore Park. Last October, a rehabilitation project was started to repaint the structure that was originally constructed in 1961. Over the winter, crews were working on refurbishing the inside of the tower.
The work includes removing and repainting the inside and outside surfaces and some minor structural modifications. The work is weather dependent, but is currently ahead of schedule, according to a news release.
The repainting of the exterior will happen in 3 phases:
- The first coat is a zinc-based primer, gray in color. This coat is put on the same day as the old paint is removed to minimize bare metal exposure.
- The second coat is a buff color. This is an intermediate coat, going on after the primer coat is done.
- The third and final coat is the lighter tan color. This is the same color as all of Blaine's water towers.
All painting work should be completed by the end of June, weather permitting.
