Boy, 8, Died After MN Mom Locked Him In Bitter Cold Garage: Cops

The boy died during Minnesota's polar vortex, when temperatures fell into the negative digits.

BROOKLYN PARK, MN — A Brooklyn Park mom is accused of locking up her 8-year-old son in a garage during Minnesota's bitterly cold polar vortex back in February. Tasha Tennin, 36, was charged Monday with second-degree manslaughter in the boy's death.

The child was found unresponsive at his home on Feb. 1, just after 7:30 a.m. The boy had urinated in his pajamas.

A frozen puddle was in the garage attached to the house, according to investigators. Temperatures outside had been in the negative single digits.

The mother denied that the boy had been locked in the garage, the Star Tribune reports.

However, one sibling later came forward and said the boy had gotten into trouble when he arrived home from school on Jan. 31. Tennin told him to sit in the garage, the criminal complaint states.
