Inaugural Jackie Stevenson Dinner set for May 19

The Democratic-Farmer-Labor (DFL) Congressional District 3 (CD 3)
will hold an inaugural Jackie Stevenson Dinner, Sunday, May 19, at the UFCW
Hall at 13000 63rd Ave. N in Maple Grove. A social hour kicks off the evening at
5:30 p.m.; dinner and the program begin at 7 p.m.

“Jackie was a known feminist, leader in the DFL, member of the
Democratic National Committee, and volunteer for women’s and children’s
causes,” said Cheryl Poling, chair of the CD 3 DFL, of Stevenson who passed
away in 2012. “Jackie mentored so many past and current leaders, so residents
of CD 3 wanted to find a way to honor her work. It was decided one way to keep
her spirit alive was to organize a dinner in her name.”

The keynote speaker is former Speaker of the House Margaret
Anderson Kelliher. Three awards will be presented at the event. The Jackie
Stevenson and Rick Nelson awards will recognize committed CD 3 DFL volunteers.
A third award, the Linda Scheid Award, named for the late member of the
Minnesota House of Representatives and Minnesota Senate, will honor a
legislator.

“The dinner also gives us the opportunity to acknowledge those
unsung volunteers who work so hard for the DFL,” Poling said. “In addition to
the award named for Jackie, we have the Rick Nelson Award. Rick was invaluable
to the organizational work of the DFL and we honor his commitment and service
to our party with this award in his honor.

“We are also excited to honor another hardworking woman who
dedicated her life to improving our communities, Linda Scheid. Like Jackie,
through her work, Linda touched many lives and many hearts.”
