Rich in history and tradition, Central and South America are beckoning those who like to vacation in exotic locations. In a recent survey of travel trends, Travel Leaders asked its agents which Central and South American destinations are the most up-and-coming, based on client bookings. The most popular include five unique nations:
Ecuador (and the Galapagos Islands). Ecuador has Pacific shoreline beaches, Andean highlands, active volcanoes and a piece of the mighty Amazonian jungle. The capital, Quito, is in the highlands and has a well-preserved colonial center. Venture from there to charming beach towns to the west or pristine rainforests to the east. More than 600 miles off the coastline, Ecuador’s Galapagos Islands are renowned for unique wildlife, including the famous giant tortoises.
Panama. Located on a slender land bridge between North and South America, Panama is bisected by the Panama Canal, an engineering marvel that draws many visitors: but, there’s much more to see. Modern and sophisticated, Panama City also has an old town and the ruins of the original colonial city to explore. Panama’s geography and wildlife are diverse, with lots of opportunities for eco-tourism.
