What Has MRTT Been Up To?

Mother nature has been a bit moody this year, but the Champlin/Maple Grove chapter of Moms RUN This Town has still been as active as ever!

The Champlin/Maple Grove chapter of Moms RUN This Town (MRTT) continues to gather momentum. We are currently at 95(!!!) members. Moms LOVE the free opportunity to make friends, find support, and get out and run or even just walk with other moms. Some great friendships have developed. We have remained active and the enthusiasm from members continues to increase! We have ladies of EVERY fitness level in our group, from walkers to speedy marathoners.

And, even though the weather outside has been frightful - our private, closed Facebook group is delightful - it provides the chance to chat, ask questions, get support....whatever. If the weather is keeping us from going outside to run, or for members who aren't quite ready to join the group in person yet, our Facebook group is there to keep us connected. In fact, our Facebook group is part of what makes us so unique - not only are we an active running club with group runs, but we have this amazing online community as well.

We have been having regular group runs 1-2 times per week, with full intentions on having a minimum of two per week once the weather cooperates. Members have discussed wanting more options and additional group runs are sure to evolve as time goes on. Any member is welcome at any time to initiate a group run at a time that works for them, or even just post looking for a single running partner. Or WALKING as well - we have plenty of members who are walkers or brand new runners.

In addition to our runs, we have done a couple of fun photo shoots...one for the Maple Grove magazine, and another at Nadia Cakes as a part of a national MRTT photo contest. We hope to have another breakfast "meet and greet" soon, and several members want to do a happy hour as well. Some members have discussed getting involved in volunteer opportunities. And if that wasn't enough action, we are also hoping to plan a family barbeque this summer, as a way for us moms to thank the dads and kids who make sacrifices and allow us to pursue our running adventures.

Finally, due to the wonderful enthusiasm many members are showing, there was a high demand for MRTT gear. We just placed our second order for shirts, and this time jackets as well. This gear is certainly not a requirement for any member to have, but it IS an option for those who are interested.

MRTT is free, active, casual and fun. We are becoming more than just a club - we are a group of friends - and we welcome new faces. All you have to do to be a part of it is REQUEST TO JOIN our closed, private Facebook group.

And guess what - MRTT has active chapters in other local areas including Minneapolis, St.Paul, Chaska/Waconia, and Albertville/St.Michael! MRTT even has a very active chapter as far north as Duluth - and of course, well over 500 other locations nationwide and in Canada. For a group that was started by 2 women, one chapter, not even 3 years ago - that's some pretty darn amazing growth.
