City Council Establishes New Precinct Boundaries

The new plan for precinct boundaries and polling places in Maple Grove is a result of the recent state redistricting.

As a result, the Maple Grove City Council adopted a resolution to establish precinct boundaries with the city and designate polling places at its March 19 meeting.

“The city of Maple Grove remains in U.S. Congressional District 3 and also continues to be in two separate state house districts, 34A and 34B,” according to an administrative memo provided to the council. “Maple Grove’s 2010 census population is now 61,567. The population after the 2000 census was 50,365.”

The 2012 City of Maple Grove Redistricting Plan “retains an even population distribution in all precincts and maintains the city’s precinct count at 23,” according to the memo. The plan will need county and state approval before it is finalized.

  • Several factors that control precinct boundaries, according to the memo, are:
  • Precinct boundaries cannot cross congressional or legislative lines
  • There must be a polling place for each precinct. The polling place must be located within the boundaries of the precinct or within one mile of one of the boundaries.
  • Polling places must meet American with Disabilities Act requirement for access.
