Council Agrees to Move Forward with Fire Shared Services Study

After receiving an invitation from the city of Brooklyn Park, Maple Grove has agreed to become part of a study to look at shared fire services. Brooklyn Center, Crystal, New Hope, Osseo, Plymouth and Robbinsdale were also invited to take part in the study.

“The primary focus of the study is to consider whether it is in the best interest of these communities to collaborate on service delivery models,” according to a memo from City Administrator Al Madsen to the Maple Grove City Council at the Sept. 17 meeting.

The study will cost $49,634 from consultant Emergency Services Consulting International. Maple Grove’s share will be $3,500, according to council documents.

Operating methods, service delivery needs, capital investments, staff models and costs and “other important factors in providing proactive fire response within the communities” will be reviewed in the study, according to Madsen.

“It is expected the study may provide information about how services are delivered and what efficiencies may be gained through enhanced cooperation,” Madsen wrote in his memo.
