Fatal and Serious Accidents Plague Maple Grove Intersection

You may have seen or even been in an accident here yourself. Officials say that in 2016 alone, the Maple Grove intersection of Elm Creek Boulevard and County Road 81 has been the site of at least 17 auto accidents so far.

The side of road is littered with shards of glass, metal, other debris from the many car crashes.

Two weeks ago, Patch reported on one accident at the Maple Grove intersection that took the life of a 50-year-old Blaine man.

Northwest Community Television reported that on Wednesday, a two-vehicle crash briefly trapped a driver inside the car before being taken to the hospital.

Maple Grove Police Captain Adam Lindquist says nearby construction on Highway 610, and the significant size of the Elm Creek Boulevard and County Road 81 intersection, may be the cause for the high volume of crashes.

Officials have no specific plans yet for how to improve the safety of the intersection, but will research the site's crash history in order to find a solution.

Lindquist said drivers should always be cautious when entering an intersection and be aware of the surroundings.
