Maple Grove Man Arrested After Apparent Overdose Death: Police

The 23-year-old was arrested on suspicion of second-degree manslaughter, police said.

MINNETONKA, MN — A Maple Grove man was arrested Sunday after authorities found a 59-year-old man who died of an apparent drug overdose. At about 8 a.m. on Oct. 21, Minnetonka police responded to a report of an unresponsive person on the 2000 block of Pine Island Road.

When officers arrived, they found the man deceased.

Riley Kendall, 23, made the 911 call and was on the scene when officers arrived, police said. After an initial investigation, Kendall was arrested on suspicion of second-degree manslaughter (culpable negligence).

He is in custody pending charges, police announced Monday. Authorities are working to determine the circumstances of the overdose. Hennepin County is expected to decide on possible charges Tuesday.

The Hennepin County Medical Examiner will release the identity of the deceased and cause of death.
