Maple Grove native overcomes serious injury to play hockey
Maple Grove, Minnesota native Mary Shefveland overcame a career threatening surgery to play goalie again for Hamline University.

Mary Shefveland is a graduate of Maple Grove Senior High, class of 2012, and is currently in her third year at Hamline University in St. Paul. A year from today, Dec. 9, 2013, she went through with a career threatening surgery on her left hip after discovering an over bone growth impingement. She was able to overcome the injury and make it back to the ice this 2014-2015 season for NCAA Division-III college women’s hockey as a goalie for Hamline University. She started at goalie for the team’s season opener on Nov. 14. In two games started this season, Shefveland already has 60 saves.
