Maple Grove Needs Volunteers to Plant 30 Gravel Bed Trees
Maple Grove used grant money from the DNR to purchase bare root trees that will be planted in gravel beds.
The city of Maple Grove is looking for volunteers to help plant 30 gravel bed trees along Weaver Lake Road from Main Street to Jonquil Lane Saturday, Sept. 17, from 9 a.m. to noon.
Maple Grove received a grant from the Minnesota Department of Natural Resources to improve community forest through citizen engagement. A portion of the grant money was used to purchase “bare root” trees that will be planted in gravel beds.
• Volunteers must be at least 16 years old.

• Planting only, holes will already be dug.
• Wear clothes that you don’t mind getting dirty.

One major benefit of using bare root trees instead of potted or ball and burlap is cost, according to a news release.
Bare root trees on average cost $15 to $30 per tree, while ball and burlap can sometimes fall into the $200 range.
City officials expect to plant 450 trees over the next three years.
