Maple Grove Police Officer Helps Young Victim of Theft

After a Boy Scout with his own lawn mowing business became the victim of a theft, a local police officer surprised him with new equipment.

Maple Grove resident and high school student Paul Kochenderfer started his lawn mowing business this spring to help him raise money for a Boy Scout trip.

KSTP reported that after his business was going well, someone stole a custom cart Paul's grandfather built him to haul his equipment around.

Paul said the theft hit him hard, leaving him puzzled and frustrated. "I’m thinking, 'Wow, there are bad people out there, too, you know, with all the good."

Paul filed a police report, and was connected with Maple Grove Police Officer Dave Goggins.

After listening to Paul, Goggins said he could tell how disappointed he was with the situation.

The Maple Grove Voice reported that after hearing from Paul, Goggins decided to build a replacement cart. While off duty, Goggins built a new cart and planned on delivering it as a surprise, but Goggins happened to drop the cart off just as the family returned home.

"I came home from my church youth group event and Officer Goggins was there with a cart. I felt really grateful. It’s awesome," Paul said.

"A lot of times, we don't get to see outcomes of things that we do," Goggins said.

"I didn't do this because I was looking to get anything out of it. I just wanted to help this kid out."
