Maple Grove Rep Is Robbed At Gunpoint: Police

Police are investigating after Maple Grove's state representative reported being robbed at gunpoint in Saint Paul Thursday.

Police are investigating after Maple Grove's state representative reported being robbed at gunpoint in Saint Paul Thursday. Police say Minnesota Republican Rep. Dennis Smith was not injured in the robbery at Grand Avenue and Milton Street. After the robbery, Smith back walked to Salut Bar Americain on Grand Avenue, where he had just come from, to call the police.

“A gentleman approached me and he had a gun out, asked for my wallet and my phone and I agreed. And I was able to walk away safely,” Smith told the Pioneer Press.

Smith said he was walking while on his cellphone north of Grand Avenue on Milton Street when a man approached. The man held a handgun and pointed it at Smith, telling him to give him his wallet, which he did, according to police.

The man was wearing a hoodie as he pointed the gun at Smith from his hip. The suspect also asked for his phone and Smith complied before the man fled the scene, WCCO reported. The suspect was described as a black male, between 25 to 35 years old, with a black hooded sweatshirt, short hair, and clean shaven.
