If you're looking to buy a new home in Maple Grove, real estate professionals recommend you do it fast. The Twin Cities suburb's supply of affordable houses for sale is shrinking quickly.

With the high cost of rent in the metro, residents are increasingly looking to buy a home instead.

The Star Tribune reported that the trend is good news for current Maple Grove residents, especially those who bought their houses in the late 1990s. “I’m not seeing my sellers underwater anymore,” Carrie Schmitz, a Maple Grove resident and agent with Keller Williams Classic Realty, told the Star Tribune. "They’re not pricing their houses out of need. They’re pricing out of reality.”

Maple Grove's appeal to home buyers isn't surprising. In addition to its supply of affordable homes, the city is close for workers commuting to nearby General Mills and Medtronic, and it's home to one of the premier shopping destinations in the Twin Cities.

“The positive around Maple Grove is that we kind of can live in our own bubble,” Schmitz added. “We don’t have to go anywhere to do anything. We can just live here and be totally entertained.
