Paulsen Pens Op-Ed: My Health Care Vote Will Help Minnesotans

After hundreds protested at his office, U.S. Rep. Erik Paulsen took to the op-ed pages to defend his vote for the American Health Care Act.

After an estimated 150 people demonstrated outside his Eden Prairie office this weekend, U.S. Rep. Erik Paulsen took to the op-ed pages of the Star Tribune to defend his vote for the American Health Care Act. Paulsen said the replacement for the ACA, otherwise known as Obamacare, "would control costs and empower states and citizens."

Paulsen is a member of the Ways & Means Committee, which has jurisdiction over health care, economic and trade policy and is the chief tax writing committee in the House of Representatives.

"Nothing in the bill would allow an insurance company to deny someone coverage, including to those with a preexisting condition," the representative from Minnesota's Third District wrote:

The legislation passed last week is certainly not the end of the road but instead a first step toward providing Minnesotans with a health care system that works for them. I will continue to champion other legislative ideas, including my initiatives on chronic care reform, treating and reducing obesity, and ensuring that seniors have access to rehabilitation services, all of which enjoy bipartisan support. At the same time, we must continue to have a thoughtful discussion on solutions that will provide high-quality, affordable health care coverage.
