Snapped Power Line Causes Electrical Fire in Twin Cities

A snapped power line caused a serious fire in the Twin Cities Sunday that illuminated the street with sparks and an electrical blaze.

Amidst snow and freezing rain, at least two power lines were snapped in the Twin Cities Sunday. The second snapped line in Mound caused a serious fire that illuminated the street with sparks and an electrical blaze.

The Mound Fire Department and Xcel Energy Minnesota responded to the incident. Nobody was injured in the incident, "but it did give quite the show for those that saw it," Orono police said on Facebook.

"Police do a lot of things but touching live wires and running into fire is generally not for us."

If you ever see a power line on the ground, don't assume that it is not energized or that it is insulated. Stay at least 10 feet away from the wire and secure the area to keep others away too, says Center Point Energy.
