MINNESOTA — Democratic presidential candidate and Senator Bernie Sanders chose Minnesota as the state to host his final event before Super Tuesday voting kicks off. Sanders traveled to St. Paul to rally with supporters at a "Get Out the Vote" concert that featured a performance by Nathaniel Rateliff & the Nightsweats.

Sanders began his speech by inviting in supporters of Sen. Amy Klobuchar and former South Bend Mayor Pete Buttigieg to his campaign. Both dropped out of the race before Monday night.

"To all of Amy and Pete’s millions of supporters, the door is open," he said. "Come on in."

In an attempt to unify Democratic voters, Sanders stressed his goal of defeating President Donald Trump in the general election this year.

Sanders is one of only five candidates on Minnesota's ballot that are still competing in the race.

Without Klobuchar and Buttigieg, that leaves only Sanders, Sen. Elizabeth Warren of Massachusetts, former Vice President Joe Biden, Rep. Tulsi Gabbard and former New York City Mayor Mike Bloomberg still in race.

Sanders will have to face a voting block of moderates that consolidated behind Biden before Tuesday.

However, Sanders has a strong base of support in Minnesota. He trailed just behind Klobuchar in a recent Star Tribune poll. With Klobuchar out of the race, that leaves Sanders with an opening to grab most of the state's 27 delegates.
