Hill-Murray Football Player Collapses At Game, Placed Into Coma

The football player suffered a brain bleed on his left side, his mother said.

MAPLEWOOD, MN — A high school football player is in a medically-induced coma after collapsing on the sideline of a game Saturday. After he started to not feel well, Zach Zarembinski — a senior lineman for Hill-Murray School — left the field during his team's game against St. Paul Johnson.

Zarembinski quickly collapsed thereafter and was transported to Regions Hospital.

He suffered a brain bleed on his left side, his mother Tracy wrote on CaringBridge. He received an emergency craniotomy to remove part of the skull, allowing his brain to swell, she said.

"He immediately responded positively," Tracy wrote. "He stayed stable overnight."

Hill-Murray coach Pete Bercich — who also provides analysis on KFAN during Minnesota Vikings games — thanked the fire and EMT crews for saving Zarembinski's life.

The Star Tribune described Zarembinski as a "standout" two-way lineman.
