Nominations are due March 17 for the 1st Annual Community Service Award, an award memorializing the generous spirit of Garold "Jerry" Murphy. Jerry volunteered his time to Mendota Heights and the surrounding cities for more than 48 years.

Jerry began volunteering in 1967, ensuring he was available at a moment’s notice to help public safety, volunteer at schools and help out any citizen in need. City officials conservatively estimate Jerry volunteered in excess of 40,000 hours for his community, his church and his family.

Most importantly, he did so without self-promotion, just simply a smile, a kind word and a story.
