Mendota Heights Sports Roundup: Cadets Soccer Battles To Stay Above .500
One win in final two regular-season games would guarantee St. Thomas Academy a winning record this autumn.

As the calendar turned to October, Mendota Heights-area teams continued to jockey for post-season position as the boys soccer team looking for one victory in its final two regular-season games to ensure a winning 2011 campaign.
St. Thomas Boys Soccer
Following a 1-0 win at Mahtomedi on Oct. 1, the STA boys soccer team carried a 7-6-1 overall record into the final week of the regular season.

The Cadets are needing one win out of their last two pre-playoff games, both at home. Class A's No. 8-ranked South St. Paul pays a visit on Thursday night, while Chisago Lakes closes out the regular season on Saturday morning.
One win will clinch an above .500 finish, no matter the results of the upcoming Section 3A Tournament that begins on Oct. 10.

STA brings a 5-4 Classic Suburban Conference mark into the circuit finale against the Packers. Benjamin Lemay has all-but locked up the Cadets' scoring title with 12 goals through 12 games thus far.
Henry Sibley Boys Soccer
The boys soccer team snapped a two-game losing streak with a 5-1 defeat of Simley on Sept. 27 to bring a 9-3 overall record and 6-2 CSC mark into this week.
Individual statistics were not made available. The Warriors, currently second in the conference race, conclude the regular season on the road versus Classic Suburban opponents with a Tuesday game at Richfield and a Thursday matchup at second-ranked North St. Paul.
Visitation Girls Soccer
A 2-1 defeat of Minneapolis Washburn on Sept. 29 combined with a 6-0 loss at Simley to give the girls soccer team a 10-3 overall record with three games to play.
Haley Housh leads the Blazers with 17 points on nine goals and eight assists, while Abby O'Brien's 14 goals top the squad.
Visitation, ranked eighth in Class A, entered October one game off the lead pace in the Tri-Metro Conference with a 6-1 circuit mark.
The Blazers conclude the regular season this week with home games versus Breck on Tuesday and Minnehaha Academy on Saturday, with a road trip to Blake in-between on Thursday.
Henry Sibley Girls Soccer
A win, a loss and a tie last week brought the Sibley girls soccer team into the final stretch of the regular season with a 4-7-4 overall record and a 2-5-2 mark in the CSC.
The Warriors topped North St. Paul 3-2, lost to Simley 3-1 and tied Coon Rapids on Sept. 26, 27 and Oct. 1, respectively, with one final conference matchup on Tuesday at Richfield to go before wrapping up its pre-playoff schedule versus St. Paul Highland Park next Monday.
Through 15 games, Anna Giles and Kallianne Mogler were tied for the team lead with 12 goals apiece, with Courtney Arnborst following up with 10 goals.
Visitation Volleyball
The Visistation volleyball team claimed consecutive 3-0 wins over Blake and Minnehaha Academy last week to improve to 14-4 overall and a Tri-Metro-best 7-0.
Individual statistics were not made available. The Blazers host St. Paul Academy on Tuesday, then play at DeLaSalle on Thursday an in the Lakeville North Tournament this Friday and Saturday.
Henry Sibley Volleyball
Back-to-back 3-0 wins last week over Simley and South St. Paul improved the Henry Sibley volleyball team to 7-6 overall and 4-4 in the CSC.
Individual statistics were not made available. The Warriors play Mahtomedi at home on Thursday in their lone game of the week.
Visitation Girls Tennis
The Visitation girls tennis team defeated Eastview 4-3 on Sept. 28 and St. Anthony 6-1 on Sept. 29 to improve to 13-3 on the year. A score from a scheduled Sept. 30 match versus St. Paul Central was not reported. Individual statistics were not made available.
Henry Sibley Girls Tennis
The Henry Sibley girls tennis team concluded its regular season with a 2-11 record after a 4-3 defeat of North St. Paul on Sept. 28. Individual statistics were not made available.
Visitation Cross-Country
Led by a third-place finish by Martha Hubbell, the Visitation girls cross-country team finished third in the on Sept. 29.
Hubbell completed the four-kilomter course in 15 minutes, 19 seconds. She was followed by: Marta Seitz (16:12) in 14th, Grace Foster (16:45.4) in 27th, Susan Nitschke (16:52) in 32nd and Katie Gavic (17:02.3) in 49th.
Results from a scheduled appearance in the Swain Invitational in Duluth on Oct. 1 were not reported.
Results and statistics from scheduled meets involving the Henry Sibley and Visitation girls swim/dive teams were not made available.
