Remembering Mendota Heights Officer Killed In The Line Of Duty

Mendota Heights police officer Scott Patrick was shot and killed by a fugitive in 2014.

MENDOTA HEIGHTS, MN — President John F. Kennedy proclaimed May 15 as Peace Officers Memorial Day in 1962, and the week surrounding it as National Police Week. It was established by a joint resolution of Congress, paying recognition to those who lost their lives in the line of duty.

In honor of National Police Week, Patch is remembering and paying tribute to the fallen officers of Minnesota towns and cities.

Mendota Heights police officer Scott Patrick was shot and killed by a fugitive during a traffic stop near Dodd Road and Smith Avenue in West St. Paul July 30, 2014.

Patrick was standing next to his patrol car's door when he was shot in the head. He was transported to Regions Hospital where he died.

The fugitive was arrested seven hours later, and in February 2015 he was convicted of first degree murder and sentenced to life without parole.

Officer Patrick, 47, had served with the Mendota Heights Police Department for 19 years. He is survived by his wife and two daughters
