13-Year-Old Charged In Crash That Sent 7 To Hospital: Authorities

MINNEAPOLIS — A 13-year-old boy who was driving a vehicle involved in a North Minneapolis crash that sent seven people to the hospital has been charged with six felonies, according to authorities.

The child was 12 at the time of the collision but had a birthday this week, according to the Hennepin County Attorney's Office. The charges against him include several counts of criminal vehicular operation resulting in bodily harm as well as receiving stolen property and fleeing police, authorities said.

The incident occurred around noon Monday, when law enforcement pursued a vehicle that was stolen, moving erratically and suspected in multiple armed robberies, according to police. The vehicle struck another vehicle and a bus shelter near Penn Avenue North and Olson Memorial Highway, injuring the other driver, who was treated at the scene, as well as a pedestrian, who was taken to the hospital, police said.

Six juveniles — five boys and a girl — were in the stolen vehicle and they were all brought to the hospital, according to police. Only the 13-year-old was referred by law enforcement to be considered for charges, according to the county attorney's office.
