68 MN Laws Passed In 2022: Russia, Car Buyers Among Those Impacted

ST. PAUL, MN — The Minnesota Legislature passed 68 bills into law in 2022. The country of Russia, car owners, and the managers overseeing the Southwest Light Rail project are among the people who will be affected by some of the new statues.

Russia

Following Russia’s invasion of Ukraine, lawmakers passed a measure that forces the State Board of Investment to divest Minnesota’s investments from Russia and Belarus within 15 months.

Car buyers

Minnesotans looking to buy cheaper and older cars will be able to gain information onthe vehicle's prior damage.

Southwest Light Rail

The Southwest light-rail project — otherwise known as the Metro Green Line Extension — won't be complete until 2027 and will cost between $450 million to $550 million more than originally projected, according to the Metropolitan Council.

Lawmakers passed a measure that asks the Office of the Legislative Auditor to conduct a special review of the project and its challenges.
