MINNEAPOLIS — The American Heart Association recognized 22 Minnesota hospitals for their work to improve outcomes for people who experience heart disease or stroke.

Each year, the AHA recognizes hospitals across the country that provide up-to-date, research-based guidelines for heart disease and stroke treatment. A total of 2,600 hospitals across the nation were recognized this year.

Heart disease and stroke are the No. 1 and No. 5 causes of death in the United States, the AHA said.
