Today's riddle: What has a tail, but no body? 🤔 (Answer below!)
1. Here's What Triggered Carson Wentz's $100K Bonus Against The Packers (patch.com) — Minnesota Vikings fans in Minneapolis have extra reason to watch backup quarterback Carson Wentz after he earned a $100,000 bonus by sparking a comeback win over the Packers in Week 1. With Kyler Murray in concussion protocol, Wentz is poised to start in Week 2, and his contract pays out more bonuses each time he leads the team to victory while playing most offensive snaps.
2. Threat assessment experts: The warning signs were there. Minnesota lacks the tools to act. (kstp.com) — Minneapolis residents are learning that experts believe the Shoreline Plaza shooting exposed serious gaps in how Minnesota and local agencies use behavioral threat assessment to prevent violence. Specialists say a stronger statewide framework, more training, and better local coordination could help police and partners act earlier, while MPD and the BCA explain current limits and urge the public to report concerning behavior.
3. Minneapolis Public Schools Considers Closures in Transformation Plan (news-usa.today) — Minneapolis Public Schools is preparing a major restructuring plan that could close or consolidate schools to close a $39.7 million budget gap, with three options going to the school board soon. About two dozen under-enrolled schools, including many on the North Side, are under review, and some changes could take effect as early as next school year after community feedback.
4. Aaron Judge homers as Yankees dump Twins, seal postseason bid (statenews.net) — A big night at Target Field in Minneapolis saw the hometown Twins fall 8-3 to the New York Yankees, who clinched a postseason berth. Aaron Judge's three-run blast capped a six-run eighth inning that erased Minnesota's early lead, despite solid offensive showings from Emmanuel Rodriguez and Josh Bell for the Twins.
5. Golisano gives $225M to 6 children's hospitals nationwide (ithacajournal.com) — Children's Minnesota in Minneapolis is receiving a transformative $35 million gift, believed to be the largest ever for pediatric care in the state, and its campus will be renamed Children's Minnesota Golisano Campus. The funding will expand infrastructure and access to advanced treatments like gene and cell therapies, as part of a $225 million nationwide investment in six children's hospitals.
